Three Must Read Books

Technology can get boring after a while and cause eyestrain. Books have so much to offer and can be a perfect way to temporarily escape from reality! In times when we are trapped at home, there is nothing better than cuddling up with a good book. Below you will find three must read books for anyone with too much free time.

Written by Farah Naz Rishi, I Hope You Get This Message explores the intersection of fantasy and sci-fi with vivid descriptions of scenery and strong themes of familial bonds and loyalty. If you want to relate with a character’s extreme end-of-the-world experience, read this book! When Earth is contacted by a planet called Alma, Jesse, Kate and Adeem are told that there are only a few days left before the Earth is destroyed. The book follows the journey of three kids trying to piece their lives together and tie loose knots, before everything goes up in flames. I Hope You Get This Message is an interesting read that can change your perspective on human nature, showing the reader how greedy and cruel humans can be, but also how caring and compassionate when need arises.

If romance is more your speed, pick up Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz. It’s a coming-of-age, romance novel following Ari through his teenage years as he discovered friendships, family secrets, and his own feelings. The book also explores darker themes such as murder, homophobia, drugs, and war, so it may or may not appeal to a general audience. Fortunately, there aren’t any intense scenes. Now would be the perfect time to read this book, because the sequel and possibly a movie are coming out!

The last book is an all time favorite, Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. It's an action, fantasy novel set in an alternate universe called The Grishaverse. Written from the perspective of six different teenagers who work to complete an impossible heist, this book is full of intense fight scenes, superpowered humans, plot twists and numerous evil schemes. Follow Kaz, Inej, Nina, Matthias, Jesper and Wylan as they overcome their pasts and follow orders from their enemy. Each chapter is an adventure where the reader learns more about characters and their motives, talents and emotions. Six of Crows is part of a duology, so if you enjoy first, you’ll love the second! Enjoy The Grishaverse overall? Read the Shadow and Bone trilogy to get more insight on that world.

If any of these books seem enjoyable, head over to the nearest book store. These novels are available at Barnes and Noble, as well!
