Disney Plus What?: A Review of Disney+

Forget about Netflix and Hulu, Disney+ is the next big thing! Disney’s new ad-free streaming service, Disney+ (pronounced “Disney Plus”) has attracted many customers, mainly due to the company’s noteworthy shows and movies. In addition to Disney films, content offered includes cinema from Twentieth Century Fox, Marvel Studios, Pixar, Lucasfilms, National Geographic, as well as thousands of other shows and movies. The desire to access this popular media has drawn a huge audience for the service, even enticing some people to leave competitor streaming services, such as Netflix, Hulu, HBO Now, Sling TV, among others. The variety of films is interesting as well. Disney+ maximizes their subscribers by offering content for small children, as well as movies that adults can watch and enjoy.

Another one of the many perks that comes with buying a subscription to Disney+ is the ability to stream on up to 10 devices at once. To put this into perspective: Netflix and Hulu allow simultaneous streaming on only two devices, while HBO Now and Sling TV allow three. Disney+ allows more than triple this amount.

Financially, Disney+ is ahead of its time, as well. A subscription costs $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year ($5.83 per month) after a seven day free trial. However, users who have Verizon FiOS receive a year of Disney+ free. This is significantly lower than some of its main competitors. Netflix offers a subscription for $14 per month, Sling TV for $25 per month, and HBO Now for $15 per month. The only streaming service that beats the price of Disney+ is Hulu, which costs $5.99 per month, only a one dollar difference.

Disney+ is supported by desktop web browsers, mobile devices, smart TVs, boxes, game consoles (Apple TV 4th Gen and later, Playstation Four, Xbox One, Roku), and other streaming devices, such as Chromebooks, Chromecast, Apple AirPlay, and Amazon Fire TV.

Due to its great content, fair pricing, and wide availability, Disney+ gained over 10 million subscribers on Nov. 12, 2019, the first day of its launch, according to numbers reported on Nov. 13.
